Child Care Centers and family child care providers may seek accreditation through national organizations. The NJPDC can provide technical assistance to family child care providers and child care centers who wish to complete requirements for the following nationally recognized accreditations.

A Scholarship Accrediting Providers (ASAP) is an initiative for New Jersey's registered family child care providers that offers national accreditation, supportive services, professional development, substitutes, equipment, mentoring and NAFCC membership. This statewide initiative has been developed through a partnership established with the Family Day Care Organization of NJ, NJ Family Child Care Providers Association, NJ Association of Child Care Resource and Referral Agencies, NJ Department of Human Services and the NJ Professional Development Center for Early Care and Education. National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) is nationally recognized as a leader in the field of early care and education. The NAEYC accreditation process involves a rigorous self-study and assessment focusing on staff to child ratios, education levels and retention rate of staff, as well as the demonstration of developmentally appropriate practices and curriculum materials. National Early Childhood Program Accreditation (NECPA), a nationally recognized program, uses an Automated Accreditation Indicator System (AAIS) developed by Pennsylvania State University and the National Child Care Association. The process involves collection of demographic information, comprehensive self-evaluation, on-site visits, scoring of indicators and production of a program profile. National School-Age Alliance accredits out-of-school time programs based on administration, human relations, safety, health and nutrition, indoor environment, outdoor environment and activities. National Association for Family Child Care (NAFCC) was designed to identify providers who strive to go beyond the minimum standards of care. The accreditation process involves administering the Assessment Profile for Family Child Care in the following seven areas: safety, health, nutrition, interaction, learning environment, outdoor environment and professional responsibility. NJ Accreditation Facilitation Project

This project is designed to increase the number of NAEYC- accredited child care centers in the state. A total of 130 centers will be selected to receive technical support, training and financial assistance as their staff undergoes the accreditation process. Ten local agencies will be selected to provide centers with direct support. 

The project is funded through a pubic- private partnership with the following entities: The American Business Collaboration for Quality Dependent Care (AT&T, Dow Jones & Company, Inc., Exxon Mobil, Johnson & Johnson, Merck and Company, Merrill Lynch, and Warner-Lambert Company), The Schumann Fund for New Jersey, Johnanette Wallerstein Institute, The Victoria Foundation, Lucent Technologies Foundation, and the NJ Department of Human Services' Division of Family Development. The Kean University Foundation is overseeing project funding.
