Directors' Academy
Directors' Academy
The Academy, funded by the New Jersey Department
of Human Services and administered by the New Jersey Professional
Development Center for Early Care and Education, provides a 45-hour
course on child care administration for directors of child care
centers.
Child care center directors will be able to choose from a variety
of options to find the course that best matches varying schedules,
locations, and learning needs. A Directors’ Academy catalog
will be distributed several times annually with new course opportunities.
Who can attend the Directors’ Academy?
Site directors of any licensed child care center. The site director
is the person responsible for the day-to-day operation of the
child care center, even if this individual has a title different
than “director.” Some Directors’ Academy
courses may also allow enrollment on a fee-basis by other participants
who do not meet this eligibility criterion. In addition, professionals
who aspire to the position are encouraged to attend.
How will I find out about Directors’ Academy
courses?
A course catalog will be mailed to every Abbott-contracted child
care center, and is available to all others by contacting the
Academy. Course listings will also be available on the NJPDC
website at www.njpdc.org. (Click on “Education and Training
Programs,” then select “Directors’ Academy.” Courses
listed as Directors’ Academy offerings in editions of
our catalog or on the NJPDC website will satisfy the Directors’ Academy
requirement. Other courses may fulfill our requirements, but
must first be granted a waiver prior to attendance.
What are the costs involved?
Registration and tuition fees vary, and should be confirmed with
individual course providers. Some funding for Directors’
Academy courses is being supplemented by the New Jersey Professional
Development Center for Early Care and Education through support
provided by the New Jersey Department of Human Services. Some
instructional providers may request a nominal “reservation
deposit” that will be returned when you attend the course.
Some courses require purchase of books and materials that will
be at the participant’s expense. Participants who are members
of NJAEYC may be eligible for a book scholarship. Call the NJPDCECE
for more information at (908) 737-4248.
Where can I obtain more information about
the Directors’ Academy?
Call (908) 737-4245 or (908) 737-4248. Interested early care and
education professionals are also invited to join the Director’s
Preparation Working Group, which is working to identify needs
and develop recommendations for stronger supports for child care
program administrators.
